Scary. I hope your area doesn’t have a lot of basements. I would have serious flooding basement issues if my area would have that kind water amount floating on the streets.

Nah we don’t have basements in hot climates, that’s something I’ve only seen colder climates do.
A significant number of homes are reporting flooding, highways feeder roads are flooded, I’m quite confident the entire downtown area is shot to hell, and school closures across the board, with the local major university opening at 10am. Fucking bastards. Even the local community colleges closed up. I’m probably going to be locked in to my street as the 100% chance of rain begins again at 8 and 9am.

Yeah it sucks out there, it's been pouring and thundering for like 5 hours straight here in Katy. High school has been closed though, so that’s not too bad

In Houston, the water table is too close to the surface for basements. Dig a hole 4 feet deep, and you then have a hole with water in it.

Ok. Here nearly all buildings have some kind of basement. The purposes for these vary (garage, sauna, heating oil tank etc) but the main reason is that the living space area is counted differently than areas for other purposes (such as basement). The area that a house can have is limited by the lot size.
Currently the land prices in certain Finnish cities is getting very expensive (not San Francisco expensive but still annoyingly expensive) so every available way to build as big house as possible is been used.

Wow. That's pretty much right when it starts to get bad again, I think. 100% chance from 9 to 12AM or something crazy

We’re in for more. It’s currently drizzling, but there’s another part of the system knocking on our doors.
The bright side: no lawn watering this week!

My work’s emergency autocaller just rang me, all offices in Houston are shut down (changed from opening at 11). I have some clients stuck in their homes or at their offices. And if this system meets some resistance from the flow coming off the gulf, it’s going to move right back into Ft. Bend.
We might not be done with this roller coaster ride.
